Rabat – King Mohammed VI sent a message of congratulations to Ahmad Ahmad on his election as president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Ahmad defeated 29-year incumbent, Issa Hayatou, in a vote that took place during the 39th Annual Ordinary General Assembly Thursday, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
As part of His message, the King said, “On the occasion of your election as head of the Confederation of African Football, I am glad to extend to you my congratulations and best wishes of full success in fulfilling your mission to serve the development and promotion of African football.”
The sovereign also took the opportunity to reassert the commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco to support efforts and initiatives undertaken by the Confederation of African Football to make football a lever for economic and social development at the continental level.
CAF new president is also deputy Senate president, the chairman of Madagascar’s Football Association and Madagascar’s former Minister of Sports.
