Kenyan basketball is about to go to a whole new level.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is where all basketball legends are made. And guess what? It’s coming to Kenya. The American sports association together with Ford Motor Company (Ford) announced the launch of the first ever NBA Nairobi League in Nairobi.
However, don’t get too excited if you are a grown teenager with beards…lol.
Because this one is an after-school basketball league for Kenyan boys ages 14 and under.
Yeah…right. It’s about the kids bro.
The Jr. NBA Nairobi League will feature 30 local school teams competing for the league championship in June. The good thing is that NBA scouts will be watching hence a few kids might get the chance to pursue their basketball careers in the US. The teams participating will also receive NBA team-branded jerseys for their games.
Kids in the league will be taught fundamental skills as well as the core values of the game. The NBA is engaging more than 12 million youth all over the world through its basketball participation efforts, with the program currently in more than 50 countries.

Just as it happens in the main NBA league in the US, the local teams will be divided into two conferences.
The top eight teams from each conference will then qualify for the playoffs. Finally, the two best teams from each conference will meet in the championship final in June to battle it out for the title of first ever Jr. NBA Nairobi League champions.
Looks like it’s gonna be exciting.
