, NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 28 – Chief Justice David Maraga, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Baba Yao Waititu, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria were among dignitaries who received wild cheers from the crowd when they arrived for the inauguration of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Maraga dressed in his official attire, looked surprised by the rousing welcome he received and just waved at the crowd, smiled and made his way to the dais where the VIPs sat.
Governor Sonko equally received a hero’s welcome when he arrived with the crowd chanting “Sonko… Sonko.”
Baba Yao got the crowd into a frenzy every time his face was shown on the big screen in the arena.
Other leaders who got the crowd excited include Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, the Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka and the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Primary School top student Goldalyn Kakuya who waved at the crowd as they cheered her on.
– Teargas Lobbed –
The crowd inside the arena temporarily endured an atmosphere of sneezing and tears because of the tear gas which was lobbed outside the stadium to disperse the rowdy youths who wanted to force themselves in despite numerous announcement by the master of ceremony that the stadium was full to capacity.
Enthusiastic supporters of President-elect Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto wanted to force their way into the stadium despite the arena being full to capacity forcing the police to lob tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Among the musicians who performed to keep the crowd entertained before President-elect Kenyatta and his deputy Ruto arrived included Emmy Kosgei, Size 8, Kymo and Stiga of the Thitima fame, Evelyne Wanjiru, Mbuvi of Kivevelo hit song, Pitson of Lingala ya Yesu among others.
The Maroon Commandoes, the old school band also serenaded the crowd with their hit songs as the crowd sang along
