Jose Mourinho has reportedly offered Juan Mata to Inter Milan to tempt them into giving up Joao Mario. According to Corriere dello Sport, though, it hasn’t worked.
Despite falling out of favour at Inter, both United and PSG are sniffing around midfielder Mario, 24, who has made just four Serie A starts under Luciano Spalletti this term. For that reason, the Portugal international is said to fancy a move in January, and Mourinho is ready to make it happen.
However, United know from experience how tricky Inter can be to deal with having been custard pied over Ivan Perisic this summer. The Serie A side are supposedly not interested in Handsome Juan, but they apparently could be tempted if Henrikh Mkhitaryan is chucked in instead. Given the Armenian is currently on Mourinho’s sh*t list, it’s hardly inconceivable that a deal could be done.
OPTIONS FOR EVANS
Aside from Manchester City, Jonny Evans has a couple of other Premier League suitors, though neither might be seen as tempting as the offer set to come from Pep Guardiola.
Everton and West Ham have both emerged as new suitors, with new managers Sam Allardyce and David Moyes both desperate to strengthen the centre of their defences with the signing of the Northern Ireland centre-half.
City have been heavily linked with Evans since last summer when it seemed likely that the 29-year-old would return to Manchester where he made his name for United. Instead, he was given the West Brom captaincy, though with Tony Pulis now gone and Alan Pardew now in charge, Evans may have a decision to make.
Go to City and become a trophy-winning squad player, or head to either Everton or West Ham and at least be guaranteed a game? Pep, or either one of Big Sam or another stint under Moyes? Tricky one, that. No, really…
Everton are also said to fancy their chances of tempting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund, according to Bild. Not quite his dream move to Real Madrid, but hey ho…
SERI ACROSS THE MERSEY?
City are also said to fancy Jean Michael Seri, though Liverpool are reportedly ready to fight them for the Nice star.
That is according to the Daily Mail, at least. Seri again has Europe’s big hitters circling around him, with PSG also keeping an eye on the central midfielder.
Seri is still at Nice, who refused to sell the 26-year-old to Barcelona for in excess of £35million in the summer, giving him the right old hump. But Barca’s interest remains, and Arsenal are said to hold a long-standing interest too.
City will have room in the squad for a dynamic midfielder when Yaya Toure exits next summer, while Liverpool seem to have outgrown Jordan Henderson and face the prospect of Emre Can leaving for nothing.
