Mtwara. CCM secretary general Bashiru Ally has sent a condolences message to President John Magufuli and all Tanzanians following the capsizing of MV Nyerere on Lake Victoria, Mwanza Region, on Thursday.
Dr Ally issued the condolences while on tour of Mtwara yesterday. “As we mourn our beloved ones, it’s also high time we learnt how to prevent disasters.”
He said he reduced his tour schedule following the ferry disaster to join Tanzanians to mourn the loss of lives.
“I have not postponed the entire tour, but I will cancel some areas of the tour schedule to mourn the victims.”
The party has sent its two senior officials to Mwanza to observe the situation. They include the party’s secretary of Ideology and Publicity, Mr Humphrey Polepole.
Meanwhile, Nanyamba MP Abdallah Chikota and Nanyumbu lawmaker William Dua have also sent condolences messages to the bereaved families.
Mr Chikota urged relevant government authorities to effectively oversee water transport services to prevent such disasters.
According to the reports, over 200 people have so far been confirmed dead. Forty-one people including the ferry’s captain have been rescued.
