Dar es Salaam. Formerly conjoined twins have been discharged from Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) after spending four months.

Ms Esther Mkono, the mother of the twins, said she was going home to Kisarawe.

“I thank the MNH staff who made me feel at home,” she explained.

The twins, Gracious and Precious Mkono, were born in Kisarawe District and an operation to separate them was carried out on September 22 at MNH.

But they had had to remain in hospital for more than a month as their environment back home was unfavorable.

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has offered Sh16 million for a two-bedroom house to be built for the twins.

It has also offered a 10-year health insurance cover for them.

UBA chief executive officer Usman Isiaka on Wednesday, November 7, handed over a cheque for the family that requested support.

The MNH director general, Prof Lawrence Museru, said the hospital spent over Sh30 million on treating and caring the twins.
