MAKURDI – Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has declared that the insinuations making the rounds that  Federal might would be used to rig the 2019 elections in the state is erroneous.

He, however, stated that state might, which is the will of the people of Benue would prevail in all elections in the state.

The governor who disclosed this in Vandeikya, Vandeikya Local Government Area (LGA) of the state last weekend in continuation of his electioneering campaign for a second term, further assured the people that the elections in the state would not be manipulated from any quarters.

Ortom made the statement against the backdrop that there were speculations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would use the Federal might to rig 2019 general elections as well as manipulate results in the state.

He also assured the people of Benue that given a second chance to manage the affairs of the state, he would deliver on his mandate by ensuring the provision of social amenities as well as improving the security situation in the state.

On the elections, the governor stressed that, “This is not going to be possible because we will vote and guard our votes jealously. We are not going to allow that (rigging) to happen in Benue. We will certainly leave nothing to chance.

”The PDP will not take the speculation of using the Federal might to rig for granted. We will surely guard against it to forestall it’s coming to fruition.

”I want to implore you to vote en masse for all the PDP candidates. Do not select the candidates to vote for in PDP. Vote all of them no matter  the circumstance.”

Also speaking at the occasion, immediate past governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam, who is also the PDP candidate Benue North East senatorial district said the Federal government has neglected the Tiv nation, which is the fourth largest tribe in the country.

He observed that, “There is no Tiv man in the current cabinet unlike what obtained in the past. Both the civilian and the military regimes had given Tiv people ministers and other key offices. But this is not so with this government.

”This is the first time in history that we are experiencing this ugly development. As a result of that the APC administration should be voted out and PDP voted into power.”, he stressed.

Earlier, John Ngbede, PDP State Chairman had appealed to the people of the state to vote PDP en masse and also guard their votes to avoid rigging.

Demenongo Unom, a party chieftain in the zone, was of the view that the governor needed to be rewarded for defending the Benue people by voting him to serve a second term.
