The Medical Research Council released some chilling statistics recently regarding child abandonment in South Africa. What is alarming is that whilst the rate of baby dumping is harrowing, the full extent is difficult to gauge as so many of these infants will never be found. What the report findings suggest is that a child born in South Africa is at the highest risk of being killed during its first six days of life.
