Arsenal have boosted their transfer budget with the £9.5m sale of Krystian Bielik to Derby.

Derby confirmed the club-record signing of Bielik on a five-year contract on Friday afternoon.

The 21-year-old joined Arsenal in 2015 but featured just twice for the Gunners, his last appearance for them coming in September 2016.

But a string of promising loan spells at Birmingham, Walsall and Charlton has seen his value increase to almost £10m, marking Arsenal’s most expensive sale since that of Olivier Giroud in January 2018.

Bielik believes it “was a good time to leave” Arsenal as “they didn’t see me as the future anymore and the manager had different plans as well”.

“It was sad when I left the training ground but I spent four and a half years at Arsenal. I joined them at 17 so I was only a kid but I leave there as a man,” he told RamsTV, adding that joining Derby was “a big step forward for me in my career”.

The windfall is sure to assist Arsenal in their pursuit of Kieran Tierney in what is shaping up to be a perfect summer.
