The Navro-Pio Pe Asagepari II and Chiefs of the Navrongo Traditional area have expressed their gratitude to President Nana Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Patry government for re-naming the University for Development Studies (UDS) Navrongo campus after C.K Tedam.

President Nana Addo announced at the funeral ceremony of a founding member of the NPP, Clement Kubindiwo Tedem in Paga in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region that a bill that seeks to make UDS an autonomous university will be named C.K Tedem University of Technology and Applied Sciences.

The re-naming of the university has been met with mix reactions with critics challenging the contributions of late C.K Tedem to the area.

Delivering a welcome address on behalf of Navro-Pio, in Navrongo on a two-day visit of President Nana Addo to the Upper East Region, Paramount Chief of Mayaro, Pe Atudipaare Atudiwe Pwakweah Manchi III lauded government for the honour.

“It is heartwarming that, the bill of C.K Tedam university for Technology and Applied Science has gone through the third reading passed and awaiting your signature, Mr. President. We are extremely grateful as a people, as a constituency and a region.”

“We hope that work will start soon with a start-up capital for infrastructure in respect of schools, colleges, faculties, departments, equipment and logistics, so that, the university will start full operations and to bring full force into education in the area.”

Pe Asagepari II appealed to Nana Addo to reconsider rehabilitating and upgrade the abandoned Navrongo Airstrip which was constructed as an international airstrip.

He further appealed for infrastructural improvement of the deplorable state of the Navrongo prisons and Navrongo municipal police station.

“Let me call on the government to put in place steps to address overcrowding in the prisons. The Navrongo prison is currently hosting a number of inmates that the prison was not originally designated for and if we address that problem, it will help us maintain human rights and dignity even in jail”.

Pe Asagepari II called on the government to rehabilitate and equip the Navrongo War Memorial hospital theatre which has not seen rehabilitation or expansion since 1911 to enhance better service delivery.

Pe Asagepari II commended government’s flagship projects such as the Free Senior High School policy, Planting for Food and Jobs, One-Village- One-Dam, One-District-One-Factory for their impact on the livelihood of citizens.
