Search teams have reportedly spotted the vehicle that submerged in the Indian Ocean on Sunday.

“We would like to inform our ferry users and the public that today (Wednesday) we anticipate to temporarily suspend ferry operations for two hours at the Likoni channel to pave way for the salvage teams to operate uninterrupted. Kindly be advised for prior arrangements,” the Kenya Ferry Service said.

Officers from the Kenya Coast Guard Service, Kenya Navy, Kenya Ports Authority, Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KEMFRI) as well as private divers are on site.

According to Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna, the teams have been working round the clock but efforts to recover the vehicle were hampered by poor weather.

In a statement, Rtd. Col. Oguna noted that the Government has been in contact with the family of Mariam Kigenda who drowned with her four-year-old daughter Amanda Mutheu.

“We will provide any assistance that the family may need. We also wish to reiterate that as Government we are committed to the protection and safety of all Kenyans,” he said.
