Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale on Saturday at his home where he announced the death of his first wife Adelaide.
The first wife of the former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale is dead.
Adelaide Khalwale died on Saturday at their Malinya home in Kakamega.
“Adelaide is my wife of 39 years. From 2003 when she was first diagnosed to be suffering from cancer, we as a family refused to be intimidated by the possibility of death. We have remained unbowed but unfortunately this morning, she has died,” Dr. Khalwale said.
According to him, she did not die of cervical cancer as she had gone through chemotherapy and surgery and had recovered from it.
He revealed that his wife had developed cancer of the blood (multiple myeloma) this year and had began standard treatment including chemotherapy.
“She completed the course of treatment. Only this week we went back to the cancer centre, we did the profiles of the bone marrow and the blood and confirmed that the cancer had been cured by the chemotherapy,” Dr. Khalwale added.
On Thursday, the late Mrs. Khalwale developed pulmonary hypertension and after two days of medication, stopped breathing.
Her body has since been moved to Mukumu Mission Hospital mortuary.
The deceased worked as a secretary at the Department of Education at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology in Kakamega.
On Saturday, Deputy President Willam Ruto sent a message of condolence saying: “Mama Adelaide was a pillar in your (Boni Khlawale’s) life, generous and kind. Thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones. Rest in Peace.”
Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula added: “My heartfelt condolences to my brother Bonny Khalwale and his family following the loss of his first wife. May the good Lord rest her soul in eternal peace. Amen!!,”
