LAGOS – Rangers International F.C’ attacking midfielder, Chiamaka Madu, who has been down with a thigh injury since the end of season ending NPFL playoff in Lagos has said that his team mates displayed great character and determination in the come-from-behind win over Gabonese side, A.S Pelican to book a place in the Total/CAF Confederation Cup 2019/2020 playoffs round.
In an exclusive chat, he said that the way in which his team mates approached the game after going down to an early goal showed that they were a side with a mission to deliver the goods.
“Sincerely speaking, our victory over A.S Pelican was a very difficult one but we thank God for the determination and great character displayed by my team mates. Really, going down as early as the fifth minute was not what we bargained for but we took the game to them and God answered our prayers with a stunning come back,” stated the highly respected midfielder.
On the next round of the competition which pitches losers of the CAF Champions league first round and winners of CAF Confederation cup first round, Madu said, “We want to do more than we did last season so getting to the group stage remains a target from where we hope to surpass our performance last season which includes getting the trophy by God’s grace. It is going to be one game at a time. Let us see the playoffs draw first. I believe we are going to scale through this year.”
On his recovery from the injury that have kept him out of action for some time now, he said, “I’ve been eager to come back and I think my recovery has been wonderful. I have started some rigorous training and very soon, before our next game, I will be available for the coaches’ selection.”
Recall that the seven time Nigeria league champions, Rangers International F.C under coach Benedict Ugwu, did a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over A.S Pelican of Gabon for a 4-3 aggregate win to be among the thirty-two clubs to do battle for a place in the sixteen team group stage of the second tier continental competition which draws will come up on October 9, 2019 in Cairo
