Yenagoa – Resignations by political appointees are depleting the number of aides serving in the administration of the Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, as another aide, Stephen Diver has quit the government ahead of the November 16 governorship election in the state.
Diver, who served as Political Adviser 1 to Dickson, announced his resignation in a letter he sent to the governor through the office of the Secretary to the State Government.
In the letter dated 9 October 2019, Diver explained that he decided to quit because the governor picked two strange bedfellows to fly the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming November 16 election.
His resignation took place barely five days after a kinsman of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Michael Ogiasa, left the government as Special Adviser on Power Development.
Diver, who had served previously as Special Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs, said the governorship and deputy governorship candidates of the PDP, Senator Douye Diri and Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, did not share a similar political ideology with him.
He added that he had no choice than to resign as he would not like to disagree with his principal on decisions that affect the future of the people of Bayelsa State.
The former political aide said, “Your Excellency, your tenure will come to an end in three months and consequent upon that, you have chosen a team to take over from you as Governor and Deputy governorship candidates under the platform of the PDP.
“I wish to make it clear to you that this team are not politicians of like minds with me and it is not part of my character to disagree with my boss on very important decisions that have to do with the future of our people and still remain in government to receive salaries and allowances.
“I hereby resign my appointment in your executive arm of government as Special Adviser on Political Matters I.”
It was learnt that Diver, who is a former chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, has defected to the All Progressives Congress which has his kinsman, Mr David Lyon, as its flag bearer.
