Lupita Nyong’o Shares Light On Racism & Colourism Ahead Of ‘Sulwe’ Release

Lupita Nyong’o shares her views on racism and colourism ahead of her new children’s book titled Sulwe

Kenyan Mexican actress Lupita Nyong is set to release a children’s book which is due to be released on October 15, called Sulwe.  The 48-page story focuses on a young girl named Sulwe who goes on a journey to discover her own unique beauty.

Sulwe has skin the colour of midnight,” the summary reads. “She is darker than everyone in her family. She is darker than anyone in her school. Sulwe just wants to be beautiful and bright, like her mother and sister. Then a magical journey in the night sky opens her eyes and changes everything.”

In a recent interview with Emily Maitlis for BBC Newsnight, Lupita talked about her experiences and understanding of racism and colourism from her own childhood.

Lupita has won more hearts with her stunning performance in Black superhero blockbuster Black Panther which generated a buzz with the exposure in mysterious Wakanda state which portray the beauty of Africa, the movie made $1.344 billion at box office in 2018.
