Mildred Atieno, the outspoken admin of popular Facebook group Buyer Beware was on Saturday arrested at her home in Donholm by sleuths from the DCI.
In a video that she posted on Facebook before her arrest, Atieno said over 10 officers jumped over her gate and lobbed tear-gas cannisters into her gated home.
“They have tear-gassed everywhere, I don’t know why they have come to arrest me, I will not open the door… They have even killed my dogs,” She said.
According to a statement from Nairobi Police boss Phillip Ndolo, officers were forced to lob tear-gas into her home after the suspect locked herself inside making her arrest difficult.
Atieno who is currently being held at the Industrial Area Police Station was arrested alongside her husband Joram Odhiambo and is facing charges of incitement to violence.
Citizen TV has established that Atty was told to pay Ksh.150,000 police bail and it is being processed.
Detectives claim that she kicked a police officer out of her vehicle on Friday.
“After managing to throw the officer out of her car, she started inciting the public against the law officer. Just, what if the crowd had lynched the police officer, what would we be talking about now?” The statement reads.
The same statement also claims that Atieno had eluded arrest on several occasions and has pending cases in different police stations across Nairobi.
On Friday, in a video that went viral on social media, Atieno was seen arguing with a police officer who had boarded her private car.
She told him in no uncertain terms that he was not allowed into her private car by law
“I will not be carrying a police officer in my car, tell me the police station that I should report to and I will meet you there, get out of my car,” she said in the video.
In August 2019, Atieno was arrested for ‘causing disturbance’ and later released on a Ksh.20,000 cash bail by the Makadara Law Courts.
