NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 22 — The National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) has called for financial support to aid a planned security review in courts following the fatal shooting of Makadara Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti.

In a communiqué dated June 21, the NCAJ asserted that it is keen on addressing emerging security issues within the justice sector, aiming to ensure a safe environment for both employees and clients.

The council emphasized the need for decisive and long-lasting security measures to protect justice sector actors and the public they serve.

Chief Justice Martha Koome, who chairs the Council, said the funds will enable a comprehensive assessment and fortification of areas of vulnerability as well as reinforcing internal security concerns.

Likewise, Judiciary will utilise the funds in training for justice sector security personnel.

“Acknowledging the resource-intensive nature of the required security enhancements, the NCAJ calls upon the National Assembly and the National Treasury to provide special financial support,” read the communique.

Koome had promised a comprehensive review of the security architecture around courts to address emerging security threats following Thursday’s incident at Makadara Law Courts.

The slain Makadara Law Courts Magistrate succumbed to gunshot wounds following the shooting.
