Rabat – New US ambassador to Morocco David Fischer met Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita in Rabat on Wednesday.

The ambassador handed his credentials to the Moroccan FM in order to officially start his duties as the leader of the US diplomatic mission in Morocco.

The meeting between the US ambassador and the Moroccan FM comes a week after Fischer swore in at a ceremony at the US Department of State in Washington D.C.

The meeting comes after Morocco went without a US ambassador for nearly three years.

The US Senate confirmed Fischer as US ambassador to Morocco in December 2019. However, President Donald Trump nominated Fischer in Morocco in November 2017.

The new ambassador is a renowned businessman in the automotive industry in the US.

Fischer owns the Suburban Collection, a car dealership company, the 14th largest car sales group in the US.
