Kenyan Police arrest Ugandan Military Officer

A Ugandan Police Defence Force officer (UPDF) and Uganda Revenue Authority driver have been arrested in Bondo, Siaya County.

The two were locked up at Usenge police station cells after they were nabbed on Monday.

The matter was reported to the same station as arrest of a Ugandan Defence Police Force officer and Uganda Revenue Authority driver at 7.30am on Monday, December 12, 2022.

Police said the two were nabbed by Port Victoria Coast Guard officers under Chief Inspector Edwin Were’s command while on patrol within Lake Victoria Kenyan waters.

This followed information on complaints from members of the public that the two were harassing Kenyan fishermen.

“That they were harassing Kenyan fishermen (one) Nauticalmiles from Honge Beach (Kenyan waters) and arrested eight fishermen and two engine boats were also confiscated. The coast guard officers were able to chase the other Ugandan team and rescued the eight Kenyan fishermen,” a police report stated.

“Also managed to arrest one UPDF officer namely Sergeant Biryomomaisho Adonia aged 40 years and Kulobone Jamal, driver of Ugandan Revenue Authority aged 28,” the report read.

Police said they recovered an AK47 rifle loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition.

The two were handed to Usenge police station both to be charged with the offences of; being in Kenya illegally while armed, and armed robbery against boats.
