Super Falcons were handed their second defeat at the Revelations Cup four-nation invitational tournament on Saturday, as Colombia nicked a 1-0 win in Leon. This defeat made it seven straight losses to the Nigeria senior women national team.

2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Silver Ball winner Linda Caicedo scored the only goal of the game for the South Americans, subjecting Randy Waldrum’s side to a seventh consecutive defeat in all competitions.

The one-week invitational tournament which started on Wednesday serves as a part of the Super Falcons’ preparations for the 2023 Women’s World Cup campaign in July.

The Colombians asserted themselves early in the game with their possession-based game.

Linda Caicedo scored the only goal of the game in the 9th minute for Colombia.

Toni Payne delivered a cross into the box in the 12th minute but the ball was easily gathered by Colombia keeper, Katherine Tapia.

With over 20 minutes played, Falcons created a couple of decent chances but met with a resilient defence.

Rasheedat Ajibade’s 24th minute long-range shot was saved by the impressive Tapia in goal for the South Americans.

Head coach Randy Waldrum made some changes in the game at different times with Ayinde making way for Regina Oti in the 40th minute.

Ifeoma Onumonu and Jennifer Echigini were replaced by the duo of Francesca Ordega and Christy Ucheibe with five minutes left on the clock, while Payne and Okoronkwo also did not complete the game.

Okoronkwo, Ajibade and second half substitute, Uchenna Kanu, were all booked in the second half for their fouls on the nippy Colombians.

The scoreline was flatterinig to the Super Falcons as goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie pulled off some brilliant saves to prevent the Powerpuff Girls from extending their lead.

Nigeria’s last game of the invitational tourney is against Costa Rica on Wednesday.
