An elderly man identified as Lucas Ateniola has been remanded in prison custody after allegedly murdering a woman and attempting to murder a young girl in Emure-Ekiti.

According to police prosecutor Caleb Leramo, Ateniola claimed that the victims, Elizabeth Nwamaka and Alice Bodunride, threatened to kill him. In response, Ateniola attacked Nwamaka with a machete, causing severe injury, before stabbing Alice multiple times as she raised the alarm.

During his arraignment before a chief magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti, Ateniola confessed to the crime, which is in violation of the criminal laws of Ekiti state 2021.

Leramo requested that the accused be remanded in custody, pending legal advice from the office of the director of the public prosecution.

Magistrate Saka Afunso ordered that Ateniola be remanded in prison custody until May 11, when the case will be brought before the court again.
