South Sudan President Salva Kiir has carried out a reshuffle of the Jonglei State government, replacing some constitutional post holders from his own party.

Kiir cited his powers in line with the 2018 peace agreement in a decree read on state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation.

The president fired five ministers, including the cabinet affairs minister and the information minister, and replaced them with new appointees.

Kiir also made changes to the Jonglei State HIV/AIDS Commission, the Anti-Corruption Commission, and the state parliament. He removed Donge Gai Donge and John Riek Ayiei from their positions as members of the Jonglei State HIV/AIDS Commission. He then appointed William Ater Manyuon Ater and John Tiel Mayul as new members of the state HIV/AIDS Commission.

No reasons were given for the changes. The reshuffle comes after the transitional government’s time in office was extended for two more years in August 2022 due to a lack of progress on key provisions of the peace agreement.
