The Benin Arsenal extend their unbeaten run in the Nigeria Premier Football League to 14 games (W7, D7), following their one-all draw away from home to Remo Stars in Ikenne, Ogun State.

The record for the longest run in Nigeria’s top-flight dates back to the 2020-21 NPFL season when Akwa United under Coach Kenedy Boboye went eighteen (18) games without a loss.

At the time, the Promise Keepers (Akwa United) had just lost 2-1 to Nasarawa United at the Lafia Township Stadium on Valentine’s Day in 2021, then failed to lose a game till the match against Katsina in June.

Note that the 2023 NPFL season will run an abridged format, seeing two groups of ten teams each, all playing eighteen games apiece, before a round-robin Super Six clash to determine the champion of this campaign.

Should Bendel Insurance complete their 18 league games without a loss, they will equal Akwa United’s feat of two seasons back, with a possibility of making history during the Super Six games.

Although Monday Odigie and his boys are already on an eighteen-game unbeaten run stretching back to their final four games in the NNL last year, completing their final four games this season without a loss will place the icing on the cake.

The winner of the 2023 abridged league is poised to win ₦100 million prize as announced by the IMC at the start of the season.
