The Nigeria Minifootball national team will on 23rd June lock horns with their Algerian opponents in an international friendly game in the Capital City of Easter Algeria – Constantine.

This follows a letter written by the Nigerian Minifootball Association to its Algerian counterpart in a statement titled “Letter of Confirmation”, informing them of the Nigeria national team readiness for the warm up game on June the 23rd in Constantine, Eastern Algeria.

In the letter dated 20th April 2023, as signed by the National General Secretary, Davids A. Adewoye, the Association stated a 27-member team will be making the trip to North Africa, including 14 players, 2 coaches, the National President and his General Secretary, five Executive Committee members, and four Government Officials.

The friendly is in preparation for the World Minifootball Federation World Cup for the year initially scheduled between the 28th of April and 6th of May in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, but was postponed till October due to technical issues.

According to the competition’s website minifootball.com, “the most highlighted reason for the later date of the Cup lies in the intention to reach a better media visibility, catching a momentum of the opportunity to have the highest level of media support, all with respect to the overall goal of increasing impact on communities.”

Delegates were sent to the UAE for extensive discussions and continuous research into the feasibility of the 2023 World Cup implementation plan, and it was discussed that the World Cup should be postponed for October 26 to November 4, 2023, which the Executive Committee of the WMF unanimously agreed.

The delegates included the President of WMF, Mr. Filip Juda, Vice-president Mr. Peter Kralik, and Secretary General Mrs. Zorica Hofman, who met with the football and school communities in Ras Al Khaimah, including an encounter with Mr. Iyad Rasbey, the Executive Director, Destination Tourism Development & MICE, and Mrs. Tilda Thörnquist, the Senior Manager, Destination Tourism Development.
