The Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso chapter, has announced the withdrawal of its services due to unpaid arrears.
In a statement released on Monday, the association highlighted the poor conditions and services within the hospital as the reason for their decision.
The statement, signed by Chairman Dr. Ayobami Alabi and Secretary Dr. Taiwo Alatishe, expressed the association’s concern over the unresolved issues and lack of assurance that the situation would improve.
The doctors appealed to the public, traditional rulers, critical stakeholders, and the Oyo State Government to intervene and address the challenges faced by the teaching hospital.
The statement read, “The congress hereby resolves by this press release to intimate the public of the notice of withdrawal of our services beginning from 08:00 a.m on Monday, May 8, following the expiration of our ultimatum.
“This is done to safeguard the hospital from total collapse and to reposition it for better training, research, and services that the hospital is established to provide.”
The doctors cited the delay and difficulty in payment of salary arrears from 2016 to 2017 by the hospital management as one of the key issues.
They also criticized the management’s failure to employ doctors and other staff due to alleged lack of funds, which has hindered the expansion of training and services.
The withdrawal of services by the LAUTECH doctors reflects their determination to address the challenges they face and ensure the hospital’s ability to fulfill its intended role in providing quality healthcare and medical training.
