Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has seemingly played down the prospect of the German heavyweights signing Super Eagles and Manchester United transfer target Victor Osimhen this summer.
The Napoli striker, 24, is attracting a wealth of interest from a plethora of big-name European clubs ahead of this summer’s transfer window following a stellar campaign for the recently crowned Serie A champions. He has scored 28 goals for the Gli Azzurri this term, establishing himself as one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe.
United, who are set to prioritise the addition of an elite-level striker this forthcoming summer, identified Osimhen as a target as far back as November and he remains on their radar, though manager Erik ten Hag has earmarked Tottenham Hotspur and England star Harry Kane as his top target. Like Osimhen, Kane has also plundered 28 goals this season.
United, as expected, face fierce competition for the Nigerian’s signature, both domestically and from overseas. The likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern have recently been credited with interest in the striker in recent weeks.
However, Bayern chief Kahn has highlighted the ‘risk’ that the Bundesliga club could take by possibly recruiting Osimhen for such an eye-watering transfer fee. It has been claimed recently that Napoli will demand a fee north of £120million.
Kahn, speaking to SportBILD, said: “When it’s about such a fee, we have to ask the question: does the player give you a guarantee for this money? That would definitely be a big risk.”
Though Napoli have not stepped forward and issued an exact figure for what they would deem acceptable to let the striker go this summer, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis, speaking last weekend, confirmed that he would not entertain any offers for him.
Speaking to Italian channel Rai Sport, De Laurentiis said: “I will not sell Victor Osimhen this summer – no way.”
