Chilean-American actor Pedro Pascal has revealed that he suffered an eye infection after allowing Game of Thrones fans to jam their thumbs in his eye, imitating his character’s violent death scene.

The 48-year-old actor gained worldwide recognition for his portrayal of Oberyn Martell in the popular HBO series around a decade ago.

He explained that fans became fixated on recreating the dramatic moment when Oberyn had his eyes gouged out by Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane, resulting in them approaching him for selfies.

During The Hollywood Reporter’s ‘Drama Actors Roundtable,’ Pedro shared his experience, stating, “I remember, earlier on, because of Game of Thrones and the way my character died, people were super into taking selfies with their thumbs in my eyes. At first, I was so sincere and delighted about the character’s success in the show that I allowed it! And then I remember getting a bit of an eye infection.”

Pedro participated in the roundtable discussion alongside Jeff Bridges, Kieran Culkin, Damson Idris, Michael Imperioli, and Evan Peters. His revelation prompted Kieran to express his astonishment, saying, “Wow, that’s a lot of trust.”

After his time on Game of Thrones, Pedro went on to portray Din Djarin in The Mandalorian and Joel in The Last of Us. His character’s demise occurred in episode eight, titled “The Mountain and the Viper,” during the show’s fourth season.
