The first phase of contract of Jose Peseiro as Super Eagles coach will expire in September, 2023.
A very competent and reliable source at Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has hinted that the contract entered with the 63-year old Super Eagles Portuguese Coach will come to an end after the Super Eagles Nations Cup qualifying match against Sao Tome and Principal in September.
According to the top NFF brass, “Coach Jose Pesseiro contract is laden with too many concession. The Portuguese Coach was seeded so much rights in the contract”
He also stated that the Coach, who was introduced to the NFF by Jose Mourinho and earn $70,000, about (#56m) monthly which has been a huge burden on the finances of the federation.
“Pesseiro’s $70,000 a month salary is not realistic, and this is putting a big burden on the lean purse of the football federation…. among the other Africa Nations, Pesseiro is about the highest paid Coach, even Senegal don’t pay that much to their coach” the NFF top official said.
“The Super Eagles last Nations cup qualifying match is on the 4th of September which is the qualify game against Sao Tome and Principal and by his contract that’s the end”
“In realistic terms NFF can not continue to pay Pesseiro $70,000 monthly wages. We will sit down with whoever we want to hire and then forward it to the Federal Government.”
Super Eagles will begin their world cup qualifications in November, by than the NFF would have opened a fresh contract talk with the coach and will also involve the Nigerian Government in the recruitment process,”
The Federal Ministry of sports, under the former sports Minister, chief Sunday Dare , had agreed to pay the salary of Super Eagles coach salary but later reneged.
