A member of the Board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Hon. Nse Essien has said the football body is not responsible for the employment of Jose Peseiro but the Sports Ministry.

BSNSports.com.ng scooped from Ojora Babatunde, who posted an interview with Essien on his X handle @Ojbsports.

Essien, who responded to calls for the sack of the Super Eagles coach, noted that the NFF is owing Peseiro following the shocking 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

He said: “When you say NFF should sack the head coach, this regime didn’t employ him. The Sports Ministry employed him. We were supposed to have paid their salaries but up till now, we haven’t paid a dime. If you sack the coaches now, who will pay for compensation? Not a dime has been paid to this coach.

“We have to respect Jose Peseiro’s contract. If we had the money to give to him (pay him off) we are going to relieve him. We are not happy.”

Nigerians have lost their cool on the Portuguese gaffer following a string of poor results coming this far.

Recall, that the Super Eagles have taken 2 points from their opening two games in the 6-team Group C, with only the top side in each pool assured of one of Africa’s 9 automatic qualification places.

South Africa could open up an early 4-point lead when they visit Rwanda on Tuesday.
