Former Nigeria’s Super Eagles midfielder and captain, Austin Okocha, has shown his displeasure with the way Maduka Okoye was treated in the national team.
The Udinese shot-stopper was the country’s first choice at the last African Cup of Nations in Cameroon and he was in goal for the 3 group games.
The young goalkeeper was seriously blamed for the defeat against Tunisia in the round of 16 and since then he has been out of the national team.
While speaking to a Nigeria journalist based in England Osasuo Obayiuwana, Okocha said Okoye was not properly managed.
He is the one keeper who has the type of training and football upbringing that we need in a goalkeeper in the national team. But he is excluded. It’s strange.
“The way he was handled [after the Round of 16 game against Tunisia] talks about the quality of player management in the national team”, he said.
Okoye was invited to the team’s last International friendly but he decided to drop out of the team
