A former assistant to Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, who applied for the Super Eagles coaching role, Domenec Torrent has been primed to be announced as the new gaffer if the Nigeria Football Federation Technical Committee settles for foreign coach as manager of Super Eagles.

An NFF insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that the rich Curriculum Vitae of Torrent made him stand out as a choice for the Super Eagles job if they dump the choice of making the home based the Head Coach.

Recall that the NFF received applications in excess of 40 from foreign managers who are interested in the vacant Super Eagles role.

The 61-year-old has worked closely with Guardiola throughout his coaching career, including stints at Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, where they achieved significant success, winning numerous trophies.

Torrent has since transitioned into a head coach role himself. Apart from coaching Girona, he has managed in Major League Soccer (MLS) with New York City FC. Additionally, the Spanish manager has coached Brazilian Serie A club, Flamengo, and most recently led Turkish Super Lig side, Galatasaray.

While Torrent is yet to secure a trophy as a head coach, he is known for instilling a silky attacking style of play in his teams, a quality many Nigerians have been yearning for since the Super Eagles’ performance at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) where they win silver after losing to the host, Cote D’Ivoire in the final.
