The Tunisia Interior Minister, Khaled Nouri met with the president of the Tunisian Bar Association, Hatem Meziou, at the ministry’s headquarters in Tunis, on Thursday.

The meeting, which was attended by Secretary of State to the Interior Minister in charge of Security, Sofiane Ben Sadok, was “an opportunity to review the existing relations between the interior ministry and the national bar association and ways to promote cooperation and complementarity between lawyers and the security institution,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry also said in its statement that “a common field of action unites the ministry and the Bar Association”, which “aims to preserve the rule of law and secure all aspects of citizens’ rights by achieving justice and the proper application and enforcement of the law, while preserving public freedoms and respecting human rights”.

The statement quoted Minister Khaled Nouri, who was appointed to his post a few days ago, as saying that “the legal profession is a noble profession with a noble mission to achieve justice”.

Recently, security forces entered the lawyers’ house in Tunis twice to execute two arrest warrants against two lawyers, which led to the rejection of lawyers and the solidarity of parties, associations and unions with them.
