One of the lawyers to popular controversial Nigerian singer Stanley Alieke has revealed that his client Darlington Achakpo Okoye, known as AKPI or Speed Darlington, has been released on bail by the court.

The information was made known to the public on Monday, December 23, 2024, via his lawyer’s Instagram account.

Alieke, who is the counsel for the popular controversial rapper wrote, “Apki has been granted bail by the court.”

This release comes nearly a month after AKPI was arrested for the second time, barely two months after his first arrest, during which he spent five days in detention.

Recall that human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed the arrest via his Twitter (formerly X) page on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

It was the Nigerian police that arrested Speed Darlington while he was performing at his show in Owerri, Imo State.

Adeyanju also confirmed that Burna Boy was the one who allegedly ordered the arrest of the musician and content creator for alleged defamation.

The rift between Burna Boy and Speed Darlington is believed to be because of the videos that Darlington made commenting on embattled American music mogul, Diddy’s relationship with Burna Boy.

On October 17, 2024, a viral clip was sighted online in which the musician detailed his experience in police custody, alleging that his rights were violated.

The rapper said, “The police violated my civil rights and my human rights and denied me the opportunity to talk to my family and my lawyer.

“The rule says I can only be detained for two days yet I was held for four without any opportunity to speak to my people.”
