Ugandan singer Mesach Semakula has officially announced plans to wed his longtime partner, Sarah Nakayi.
The 48-year-old revealed the much-anticipated news during a recent family gathering held at his home and attended by close friends and notable figures from the music and arts industry.
The couple has been together since 2002.
At the event, Mityana Bishop James Bukomeko prodded the singer to divulge details of the wedding.
The Bishop addressed the issue of the delayed wedding, stressing the importance of formalising the union.
“We want to give Mesach a befitting wedding. I call upon you, (events promoter) Abitex, to organise this like a music concert,” the Bishop said,
He further stated that preparations should begin immediately, with a wedding date likely to be announced next year.
Responding to the Bishop’s remarks, Semakula confirmed that plans for the wedding are already underway.
He shared his reasons for the delay, explaining, “I have waited a long time for many reasons. I did not want to have my wedding when still at a crossroads.”
Semakula expressed confidence that the time is now right, revealing that his brother recently built a sprawling five-acre garden specifically for the occasion.
“Now we have the venue. It is going to be a big wedding, it will be like a public holiday,” he said.
Semakula also acknowledged the relentless pressure from friends and fans urging him to take this step.
Although his original plan was to wed when he turned 50, adding that he decided to move the event forward to meet the expectations of those close to him.
“My plan was to be wedded when I turn 50, but it seems most of you are not ready to wait, so we shall just do it,” he remarked with a touch of humour.
