Nigeria’s D’Tigress head coach, Rene Wakama, has been appointed as an assistant coach for American basketball team, Chicago Sky.
Wakama recently made history by leading the Nigerian Women’s National Team to a remarkable run at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
She took charge of D’Tigress in June 2023 and quickly made an impact, becoming the first female coach to win the Women’s AfroBasket title in August 2023.
Under her leadership, Nigeria advanced to the Olympic quarterfinals—an unprecedented achievement for any African basketball team, male or female, in previous tournaments.
Announcing her appointment, Chicago Sky stated: “The Chicago Sky announced today that Rena Wakama will join Head Coach Tyler Marsh’s staff as an assistant coach.”
