Former Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses has been blocked from joining Burnley by the English Premier League, according to multiple reports in the English media.
Sky Sports says Burnley’s attempt to rescue Moses from the distress of being left in limbo in warring Russia has been blocked by the Premier League.
UEFA and FIFA earlier confirmed that teams could register footballers from the Russian and Ukrainian Leagues after war broke out between the two neighbors.
Foreign players who play in the two countries were allowed to suspend their contracts until June and play for another team elsewhere.
Burnley were looking to bolster their squad with the signing of Moses in their battle to beat the drop but the Premier League did not sanction the move as it would affect the sporting integrity of the competition.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner ended a nine-year association with Chelsea last summer after switching to Russian Premier League side Spartak Moscow in a permanent deal following a successful loan spell in 2020-2021.
A Premier League winner with Chelsea in 2017, Moses also wore the colours of Wigan Athletic, Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham, scoring 20 goals in 220 appearances combined.
