Ghanainan singer, Sista Afia says award schemes in the country have declined to acknowledge the hard work of female entertainers.
According to her, this has effected 90 percent of female musicians she came across in the initial days of her career to give up.
While posting on Facebook, she believe this is because awards schemes in Ghana have failed to favour female musicians, likening it to sorcery.
She said, “90 percent of the female musicians I came to meet when coming up in 2015 have all given up, the young ones after me have started giving up already.
“Don’t blame them, the politics in this industry, purely witchcraft. Only a few are relevant, I can count five or maybe or maybe six ladies.”
She noted that some female artists like Gyakie and Sefa have contributed massively to the industry over the past few months but will be ignored by these awards schemes and their endeavors played down.
She is however optimistic for a night where 10 or 20 Ghanaian female musicians will sweep several awards at any awards event.
“I know it sounds impossible but that day and night will surely come,” she concluded.
