Andy Robertson emerges as Liverpool’s latest injury concern

Liverpool’s staggering run of bad luck on the personnel front looks as though it could be added further to by Andy Robertson.

Reds ravaged

The last month, when all is said and done, could prove the deciding factor in Premier League champions Liverpool’s 2020/21 campaign.

This comes with Jurgen Klopp’s squad having been absolutely ravaged by injuries.

First, during the club’s Merseyside derby meeting with Everton in October, Virgil van Dijk picked up a knee injury, which is expected to see the Dutchman sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

Then, two weeks later, whilst filling in for the absent van Dijk, Fabinho hobbled off during the club’s Champions League clash vs Midtjylland, after suffering a hamstring problem.

This was followed by Trent Alexander-Arnold adding to the ever-growing injury list at Anfield last weekend, when the English international picked up a calf issue, which looks set to see him miss around a month of action.

And, incredibly, yet another defensive blow for Jurgen Klopp’s men was forthcoming this week when, after limping out of England training, Joe Gomez was subsequently forced under the knife to correct a knee issue.

The 23-year-old, as confirmed by Liverpool, is now expected to miss the majority of the campaign.

The woes of the English champions have not been restricted solely to the injury front, though, with Mohamed Salah having also tested positive for Covid-19 whilst on international duty with Egypt:

Robbo blow?

And, as outlined above, just when it appeared as though things couldn’t get much worse for Jurgen Klopp and co., another defensive concern has surfaced at Anfield.

The latest Liverpool star struggling for fitness? Andy Robertson.

Left-back Robertson was of course part of the Scotland squad which booked their spot at the European Championships earlier this week, courtesy of a nailbiting penalty shootout victory over Serbia.

The 26-year-old, though, was not one of those to have stepped up from 12 yards for the Tartan Army.

Speaking during a post-match interview, Robertson went on to reveal that this came as a result of his hamstring seizing up during the closing exchanges in Belgrade.

As such, it had since remained unclear whether the stopper would be available to feature in his country’s ensuing outing, versus Slovakia this afternoon.

Robertson, in the end, though, went on to miss out.

A 1-0 defeat for the Scots in their latest Nations League fixture saw the Reds star play no part, having not been included in Steve Clarke’s matchday squad.

This comes after the Scotland boss admitted ahead of kick-off on Sunday that a ‘question mark’ remained over their star defender’s participation.

As such, Jurgen Klopp will no doubt be awaiting an update on Robertson with bated breath, as the genuine possibility looms that Liverpool could be forced to take to the pitch versus Leicester next weekend sans the services of all of the club’s first-choice back-four.
