Arsenal confident of extending Dani Ceballos’ loan – Standard

A report from the Evening Standard on Wednesday suggests that Dani Ceballos will be plying his trade at the Emirates Stadium next season.

Arsenal standout

Ceballos, of course, joined Arsenal on a season-long loan from Real Madrid last summer.

The Spaniard enjoyed a fairly promising start to life in England, with his standout display vs Burnley in August having no doubt caught the eye of the Arsenal faithful.

The months that followed, however, saw Ceballos fail to carry such form forward, before he was hit with an injury.

But after returning to favour under new Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, the Spaniard has since cemented himself as a key member of the Gunners’ squad.

His midfield partnership with Granit Xhaka, meanwhile, has been particularly impressive in recent weeks.

Ceballos staying put for now

As a result, Arsenal’s fans are no doubt keen to see their side maintain Ceballos’ services beyond this weekend’s FA Cup final.

Mikel Arteta recently admitted that negotiations over Ceballos staying put were ongoing.

And the Real Madrid man himself has also hinted that he would be open to staying with the north London outfit, though he admitted that the eventual decision is up to his parent club.

As for Real, they appear to have been hit fairly hard by COVID-19, with it reported in Spain back in May that Ceballos is one of the players whom Los Blancos will be looking to cash in on this summer.

This, at the time, looked like bad news for Arsenal, as they themselves appear to be struggling on the back of the COVID-19 outbreak.

However, the aforementioned report from the Evening Standard is now suggesting that Ceballos will not be sold permanently this summer, with it instead reported that:

Arsenal are growing in confidence that they will be able to extend Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos’ loan for another season.

The Standard also mention Real’s desire to sell Ceballos, but, significantly, it is added that:

With the Covid-19 pandemic likely to reduce transfer fees, they are not opposed to waiting 12 months.
