Arsenal ‘offer Guendouzi & cash’ for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar/Gunners only side thought to have tabled bid

Recent speculation in France has suggested that Arsenal have made an offer for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

Lyon standout

Aouar, 22, has been on Lyon’s books since 2009.

Since breaking into the first-team ranks of the Ligue 1 giants for the first time at the beginning of 2017, Lyon-born Aouar has gone on to establish himself as one of the most highly-regarded young talents in French football.

All told, the youngster has notched 137 appearances across all competitions for Lyon, chipping in with 24 goals and 27 assists along the way.

In fact, so impressive has Aouar been since bursting onto the scene at the Groupama Stadium, that he has already been compared to Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta.

However, the French U21-international is also not afraid to stick a foot in when required, making Aouar a highly-desirable, all-round midfielder who could no doubt do a job in pretty much any side across Europe.

Arsenal in for Aouar

Such impressive displays have, understandably, led to several top clubs being linked with the midfielder.

Chief among these sides, earlier in the season at least, were Manchester City.

Lyon of course ousted City from the Champions League last week, with Aouar having been drawn on his links to the Sky Blues pre-match. However, the French under-21 international remained rather coy on the situation.

Kevin De Bruyne was then full of praise for the Lyon standout following City’s defeat in Lisbon, in turn fuelling rumours of Aouar potentially making the move to the Etihad.

However, the Manchester Evening News quickly killed those hopes off, stating:

City have no intention of buying an attacking midfielder this summer.

As such, with Man City seemingly not in the race for Aouar this summer, the door has been left open for another Premier League outfit to swoop in.

The side in question come in the form of Arsenal.

The Gunners were linked with Aouar earlier this month, with the same report having claimed that Lyon want £54m for the midfielder.

Now, as per journalist Matt Spiro, citing French outlet L’Equipe, Lyon expect to sell Aouar this summer, but have thus far only received one offer.

This proposal is thought to have come from Arsenal, and centered around Matteo Guendouzi, in addition to cash. Guendouzi is, of course, out of favour with Mikel Arteta, with it claimed that the Spaniard wants the young midfielder out of his squad.

It is understood that Lyon are yet to respond to the offer from the north Londoners.
