United frustrations

Manchester United have long been on the hunt for reinforcements out wide. The long-running saga between the club and Jadon Sancho is well documented.

Borussia Dortmund have made it very clear that if Manchester United do not pay the €120 million price-tag, the England international is going nowhere. Sancho started and scored in Dortmund’s 5-0 DFB Pokal victory over MSV Duisburg on Monday night.

The German side will now aim to challenge long-standing rivals Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga crown once again. Sancho’s 17 goals and 17 assists in the league last season is the kind of production that BVB will be desperate to retain, to help them achieve their target.

United’s wide options are sparse. Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Daniel James are the club’s main options. Whilst the former pair of this trio have proved solid goal threats, further quality is necessary if the Red Devils hope to challenge their north west rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.

In turn, this may lead to United needing to look at alternative options to reinforce their ranks.

Bale U-turn

According to Spanish outlet Deportes Cuatro, Gareth Bale is open to a loan move to Manchester United. Reportedly, whilst the Welsh international’s wages are a stumbling block, a move could materialise if all parties find an agreement.

This information contradicts that of Bale’s agent, though. In July, Jonathan Barnett labelled the possibility of a loan move “ridiculous.”

“Why would one of the best players on Earth go on loan?”

Whist Barnett’s assessment makes sense, Bale’s stock continues to diminish. Having started just 12 La Liga fixtures in the previous campaign, the world’s former most expensive player may need to take the offer and run.

Deportes Cuatro go on to state that Zinedine Zidane does not want Bale in the Real Madrid squad. Having return from international duty with yet another injury concern, a quick exit from Los Blancos would suit all parties.
