Borussia Dortmund CEO confirms Jadon Sancho was ‘ready’ for Manchester United switch

Dortmund CEO Hans Joachim Watzke confirmed to German media that Jadon Sancho was mentally ready to make the move to Manchester United.

Sancho was ready

One of the transfer sagas of the previous summer window was that of Jadon Sancho’s possible move to Manchester United. Ultimately the deal never happened, the Red Devils failed to reach Borussia Dortmund’s valuation of the young England international.

However, it has now been revealed that a deal for Sancho to move to the North West of England was closer than many thought was the case. Dortmund CEO Hans Joachim Watzke told Kicker that Sancho had effectively readied himself for a move to the Premier League.

“Subconsciously, Jadon had probably already prepared a little for a change. I think he had at least thought so much about it that he lost his ease. I have found him trying very hard for weeks,” said Watzke.

“The biggest difference is that he used to not think about his next ball action. Now he thinks about it. And the tenth of a second that he misses is often exactly the one in which the opponent is already on his feet. The more you try as a creative person, the more difficult it often becomes.”

United were reportedly reluctant to pay the £100 million figure which the German club were asking for. A deal of that magnitude in January is highly unlikely, but that does not rule out United moving back in for the England international in the summer.

United promote Fletcher to first-team coach

Whilst it may not be the signing that many United fans were hoping for, the positive news for former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is that he has been promoted from youth team coach to the senior squad setup.

“Darren has the United DNA running through his veins and he knows exactly what it takes to be a Manchester United player,” said Solskjaer

“He is at the start of his coaching career and his experience both on and off the pitch along with his winning mentality, commitment and hard work will be a great addition to the staff.”

Fletcher will join up with former teammate Michael Carrick in Solskjaer’s team. There is a feel-good factor around the United camp at the moment with the Red Devils sitting in second position and joint with first place Merseyside rivals, Liverpool.

Although before United can get back to focusing on the league they have a tricky League Cup semi-final tie against Manchester City to deal with. The winner of the match will take on the victor of Spurs against Brentford with a strong opportunity of picking up the season’s first trophy, although the final has been delayed until April.
