Carlo Ancelotti on chances of Allan making Everton debut vs Spurs & Yerry Mina latest

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has provided updates on the fitness of a pair of his side’s stars, ahead of their fast-approaching season opener.

Spurs trip

Everton, like the rest of the Premier League’s clubs, are set to get their 2020/21 campaign underway next weekend.

After the likes of Arsenal, Leicester and Leeds take to the pitch on Saturday, the Merseysiders will follow suit 24 hours later, with a trip to Tottenham.

Ancelotti’s men will of course be hopeful of getting their term off to a positive start, after managing just a solitary win across the club’s final 6 league outings last time out.

It is also worth nothing that one defeat during this stretch actually came at the hands of Jose Mourinho’s north Londoners.

‘He can play’

Ahead of their trip to the capital, meanwhile, Everton took to the pitch for the final time yesterday afternoon, in a pre-season friendly meeting with Preston.

The Toffees emerged victorious from the clash, courtesy of goals from Jonjoe Kenny and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

One concern on an otherwise positive afternoon, however, came in the form of a fitness problem picked up by Mason Holgate.

As such, speaking following the full-time whistle at Goodison Park, Carlo Ancelotti was inevitably drawn on the stopper’s wellbeing, with the Italian having confirmed that Holgate picked up a toe injury.

A further update is expected over the coming days.

If the 23-year-old does not recover in time to face Spurs, though, Ancelotti should at least have a returning central defender to make use of.

The individual in question is Yerry Mina, who, as confirmed by the Everton boss, will be fit to feature next Sunday:

‘Yerry started to train this week and he is going to be fit for Sunday.’

An update on the potential participation of new Toffees arrival Allan, meanwhile, was also forthcoming.

Brazilian midfielder Allan’s move to Goodison was made official on Saturday, with the general assumption having therefore been that he would not yet be in contention to contribute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As confirmed by Ancelotti, though, Everton’s fans could yet be handed the first glimpse of their latest signing in the club’s season opener:

‘I have no doubt about him.’

‘He came back fit [from the summer break].’

‘He trained today [Saturday] and I think he has no problem to go into the team.’

‘He can play [at Tottenham].’
