Champions League draw: Messi vs Ronaldo/Man United dealt tough test/Chelsea confident

The draw for the 2020/21 Champions League group stages was held a short time ago, as European football’s heavyweights discovered which rivals they will be forced to outdo in order to book their respective spots in the knockout rounds of the competition.

Bayern reign supreme

The upcoming Champions League campaign will of course follow on from last season’s historic edition.

Amid the Covid-19 outbreak, the tournament’s knockout stages were heavily delayed, eventually culminating in a hectic finish over the course of the month of August.

Upsets aplenty were forthcoming, as the likes of Juventus and Manchester City were both ousted by heavy underdogs Lyon.

The tournament’s finale, meanwhile, saw the champions of France and Germany go head to head, as PSG and Bayern Munich battled it out for European supremacy.

And, when all was said and done, it was the latter who etched their name further into the history books of the Champions League, courtesy of a tense 1-0 victory in Lisbon.

Man United vs PSG/Juventus vs Barcelona

The delay to last season’s finale, meanwhile, means that the opening rounds of the 2020/21 Champions League campaign will not take place until later this month.

As such, ahead of the competition getting underway once again, the always hotly-anticipated draw for the group stages took place a short time ago.

And, as expected, there were a whole host of talking points to take away from Geneva.

Perhaps the most high-profile comes in the form of the upcoming showdown between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

This comes with the Barcelona and Juventus superstars having been drawn in the same group, alongside Dynamo Kiev and Ferencvarosi.

When it comes to the English clubs, Manchester United certainly have their work cut out for them, up against two of last season’s semi-finalists, in the form of PSG and RB Leipzig, and Turkish champions Istanbul Basaksehir

Chelsea and Manchester City, on the other hand, will no doubt be viewed as odds-on to book their spots in the tournament’s last-16.
