Chelsea’s Frank Lampard on Premier League title race potentially being more open this season

Chelsea vs Sheffield United

Chelsea are set to return to action on Saturday evening.

The Blues have been in fine form of late, with their previous outing a 3-0 drubbing of Rennes in the Champions League.

As a result, Frank Lampard and co. will no doubt be confident of picking up another three points this weekend.

Sheffield United have endured a dismal start to their own campaign, and currently sit dead bottom of the Premier League table.

Lampard on Premier League title race

Frank Lampard held his pre-Sheffield United press conference on Friday.

During the presser, Lampard was drawn on the title race in England’s top-tier looking markedly more open this season.

It is actually Southampton who currently sit top of the league with an extra game played, with Chelsea four points off 2nd-placed Liverpool.

Lampard, though, remained level-headed with his response, albeit whilst admitting that the campaign’s start has been ‘slightly more open’ than recent years past.

“I think we always have to wait a bit of time on that one because there’s always such a long way to go and so many points to be won and lost.

“Of course the start has been slightly more open, and we’ve all spoken about that every week with the results that were slightly unexpected, what are the reasons, the crowd, the pre-season, whatever it is may level itself out. So I wouldn’t jump ahead too much, and at the moment it’s very close.”
