Concern for Arsenal as West Ham trio, including David Moyes, test positive for Covid-19

Premier League outfit West Ham United have this evening confirmed that manager David Moyes, along with a pair of the club’s players, have returned positive Covid-19 tests.

Hammers on top

West Ham are actually currently in action, in a League Cup 3rd-round meeting with Hull City.

The capital outfit headed into proceedings aiming to continue their upturn in form, with Moyes’ men, despite their eventual defeat, having looked superb over lengthy stretches in the club’s Premier League meeting with Arsenal at the weekend.

And this evening’s matchup, to this point, has seen the Irons manage exactly that.

As things stand, West Ham lead Hull by 3 goals to nil.

Robert Snodgrass opened the scoring for the hosts, getting on the end of Andriy Yarmolenko’s clever ball to slot home against his former side.

And it was 2-0 before the interval, as Yarmolenko bagged his 2nd assist of the night, this time setting up Sebastien Haller for a simple finish from close range.

Star of the show Yarmolenko then managed to get in on the act himself, slotting home from the spot early in the 2nd-half.

Covid outbreak

As outlined above, however, whilst proceedings on the pitch are unfolding in an altogether positive fashion for West Ham this evening, the same cannot be said for matters off of it.

In an announcement made in the midst of their meeting with Hull, the Hammers confirmed that three individuals at the club have tested positive for Covid-19.

The trio in question come in the form of David Moyes, Issa Diop and Josh Cullen.

As per West Ham’s official statement on the matter:

‘West Ham United can confirm that David Moyes, Issa Diop and Josh Cullen have returned positive tests for COVID-19.’

‘The Club’s medical team were informed of the test results as the team were at London Stadium preparing for this evening’s Carabao Cup third round tie against Hull City. The manager and both players immediately left the stadium and have returned home.’

‘All three, who are asymptomatic, will now follow Public Health England and Premier League guidelines and protocols.’

News of the coronavirus outbreak at the London Stadium will no doubt come as a source of concern for Arsenal, with the Gunners, as outlined above, having faced off against their capital rivals just 3 days ago at the Emirates.

It now remains to be seen whether a knock-on effect is forthcoming.
