Coronavirus: 207 test positive in Kenya, total cases rise to 96,456

Kenya has confirmed 207 more cases of the novel coronavirus, tested from a sample of 4,988 in the last 24 hours. 

In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Health said the new infections push to 96,458, the total of confirmed cases and 1,046,667,  the total number of samples tested.

From the cases, 190 are Kenyans while 17 are foreigners; 130 are male while 77 are females.

The youngest patient is a five-month-old infant while the oldest is 84.

Distribution of the cases by Counties is as follows; Nairobi 93, Bungoma 16, Uasin Gishu 14, Mombasa 11, Nakuru 11, Kiambu 11, Homabay 8, Kajiado 5, Busia 5, Makueni 5, Kakamega 3, Kisumu 3, Kwale 3, Nandi 3, Trans Nzoia 3, Kilifi 2, Taita Taveta 2, Isiolo 2, Vihiga 2, Machakos 2, Siaya 1, Mandera 1 and Garissa 1.

In terms of Sub County Distribution; In Nairobi, the 93 cases are from Kibra (15), Westlands (11), Lang’ata (10), Kamukunji (7), Embakasi West (6), Dagoretti North, Embakasi South, Makadara and Starehe (5) cases each, Embakasi Central and Mathare (4) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi East, Kasarani, Roysambu and Ruaraka (3) cases each, Embakasi North (1).

In Bungoma, all the 16 cases are from Kanduyi.

In Uasin Gishu, the 14 cases are from Ainabkoi (12) and Turbo (2).

In Mombasa, the 11 cases are from Nyali (5), Changamwe and Mvita (2) cases each, Jomvu and Likoni (1) case each.

In Nakuru, the 11 cases are from Naivasha (4), Nakuru West (3), Nakuru North (2), Nakuru East and Subukia (1) case each.

In Kiambu, the 11 cases are from Ruiru and Thika (3) cases each, Kabete (2), Juja, Kiambaa and Kiambu Town (1) case each.

In Homabay, the 8 cases are from Homabay Town (7) and Mbita (1).

In Kajiado, the 5 cases are from Kajiado North (3) and Kajiado East (2).

In Busia, the 5 cases are from Teso North (3) and Matayos (2)

In Makueni, the 5 cases are from Makueni (3) and Kibwezi West (2).

The 3 cases in Kakamega, are from Likuyani (2) and Lurambi (1).

All the 3 cases in Kisumu, are from Kisumu Central, all the 3 cases in Kwale, are from Msambweni, the 3 cases in Nandi, are from Emgwen (2) and Aldai (1) and the 3 cases in Trans Nzoia, are from Kiminini (2) and Saboti (1).

The Health Ministry also announced 262 new recoveries, 238 being from the Home-Based Care Program, while 24 were discharged from various hospitals.

The total recoveries now stand at 78,737.

Kenya’s total coronavirus death toll has risen to 1,670 after three patients succumbed in the last 24 hours.
