The Court of Appeal on Friday set aside a previous High Court ruling that sentenced to life a Rwandan woman who was found guilty of killing her female friend following a disagreement over a white man said to be her boyfriend.

Antoinette Uwineza alias Michelin Uwababyyi was jailed in 2018 after she was said to have killed Winnie Uwambaye Colpitts together with her (Winnie’s) seven-month-old baby.

The incident reportedly occurred on February 16, 2013 at Saharan Lodge on Duruma Road in Nairobi.

Judge Jessie Lesiit, while delivering the sentence on November 1, 2018, ruled that the accused deliberately killed her friend and her seven- month-old baby “with malice and in a brutal manner” leading to their death.
