Henderson signs new deal

Manchester United have, on Wednesday, officially announced that Dean Henderson has put pen to paper on a new deal.

Henderson, now 23, has spent the last two seasons gaining a name for himself as one of the top young English keepers whilst on loan at Sheffield United.

Henderson helped the Blades keep the best defensive record in the Premier League outside of the top-three clubs last term.

Such impressive form, obviously, proved that Henderson is more than capable of cutting it in the English top-flight.

However, it also looked to leave United with a bit of a problem. David de Gea is of course the Red Devils’ no.1 at present, and Henderson was believed to have made clear to his parent club that he would only return to Manchester in the case that he was guaranteed no.1 status.

The option of Henderson spending another year on loan at Sheffield United also looks to have been ruled out, after the Yorkshire outfit secured Aaron Ramsdale’s signature recently.

Despite this though, Henderson has now committed his long-term future to Man United, signing a new deal until 2025.

And when discussing his new deal, Henderson seemed to hint he would be staying on at Old Trafford this season, stating he is looking forward to working with United’s ‘top-level’ goalkeepers:

“The pathway that I have been on for the past five years has been fantastic for my development and the invaluable loan period at Sheffield United has been part of that.

“The goalkeeping department at United is excellent; there are three top-level goalkeepers who have achieved so much in the game and I look forward to working with the group. The faith that the manager and the club have shown in me with this contract means a lot to me and will continue my progression as a goalkeeper.

“I’ll be giving everything to improve every day so that I can play as many games as possible for this great club.

“Now I am looking forward to joining up with the England squad and then preparing for the season ahead.”

Williams injured

Elsewhere on the Man United front, the club have revealed that Brandon Williams is currently struggling with an injury issue.

Williams, of course, became a key member of Man United’s backline during the 2019/20 campaign, making 36 appearances across all competitions.

Unfortunately for United, though, the youngster is currently sidelined.

In a post across the club’s official website and social media platforms, the Manchester powerhouse confirmed that:

Manchester United defender Brandon Williams has been forced out of the England Under-21 squad due to injury.

Williams is understood to be nursing a minor foot problem with no time frame for a potential return given.

Solskjaer and co. are set to get their 2020/21 campaign underway on September 19th vs Crystal Palace and will no doubt be hoping Williams will be back in time to feature – especially given fellow left-back Luke Shaw has also been dealing with some injury troubles of late.
