Julian Brandt is the latest midfielder to be linked with a move to Arsenal.
Arsenal’s need for creativity
It’s fair to say that Arsenal’s 2020/21 campaign hasn’t gone the way many were expecting.
Mikel Arteta appeared to have breathed new life into the club, guiding them to FA Cup and Community Shield success in the first 12 months of his stint at the Emirates.
In turn, with the likes of Gabriel and Thomas Partey having arrived over the summer to improve weaker areas of the club’s squad, the Gunners faithful were no doubt largely optimistic ahead of the season getting underway.
However, the months since have proven anything but positive from an Arsenal perspective.
The biggest issue facing the capital giants thus far this term has been a lack of goals, with star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having looked a shell of his former self.
Arsenal technical director Edu even publicly voiced the opinion last month that it is quite clear the club require more creativity in the middle of the park.
Brandt interested in Arsenal
Such claims, in turn, have seen Arsenal linked with a number of midfielders this month.
Recent RB Leipzig addition Dominik Szoboszlai was heavily linked with the Gunners before his Germany switch was made official, whilst Isco and Emiliano Buendia have also been touted as potential January reinforcements of late.
And now, over recent days, yet another creative midfield presence has been widely tipped for a move to north London.
That man is Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt, with Bild reporter Christian Falk having suggested that the German has emerged as a serious target for Arsenal.
It is even claimed that discussions are already underway amongst the transfer chiefs at the Emirates over the possibility of tabling a bid.
Falk adds that the 24-year-old, who shares the same agent as Per Mertesacker, is tempted by the possibility of a move to Arsenal.
